noHold Adds Two Bots to Cisco’s Spark Depot

May 30, 2017, MILPITAS, CA – noHold, the recognized leader in web based self-services, is proud to announce that Cisco’s Spark Depot now includes two bots noHold has created using its own SICURA™ AI platform. The Spark Depot is a place for users to browse through and add “integrations and bots that can accelerate business outcomes” to their own implementation of Spark. The bots provided by noHold include:
  • SparkHelp Bot- SparkHelp empowers users to find answers about Cisco Spark anytime, directly from the Cisco Spark space.
  • WebEx Bot- WebEx bot can answer common “how to” questions about WebEx. To start a chat with the WebEx bot is just like starting a chat with a live person directly from within a Spark room.

To position these bots on the Spark Depot, noHold’s engineering team built a connector that allows users to leverage noHold’s existing chatbots directly within the Cisco Spark platform, adding an extra level of convenience for Spark users. The project took only a couple of weeks, and now this effort can be leveraged by any company that has built a Virtual Assistant using noHold’s AI platform, SICURA. In this sense, SICURA is one of the fastest ways to build a bot for Spark.

The Cisco Spark connector is an important component in achieving the multi-channel strategy pursued by noHold. Diego Ventura, CEO of noHold adds, “We want to make sure that the customers who have invested in our solution, can leverage it on different channels. If you build a Virtual Assistant with SICURA you can launch it on the Web, on Alexa, on Facebook M, and today, also on Cisco Spark.”

Trends You Need to Know About from Cisco Live! 2016

A couple weeks ago, Cisco Live! 2016 came to a close. This event surrounds itself by all things in the digital business world. Technology innovators, IT thought leaders, Cisco's top partners, thousands of educational sessions, and much more made up this 5 day event.

Throughout the week, there were lots of powerful announcements made including strategic partnerships, various cyber security tech, and innovative ideas regarding their collaboration platform, Spark. One of the top trends associated with Cisco's Spark is the integration of chatbots. "Organizations now also are looking for the capability in their enterprise communications environments, where employees can engage with bots to conduct such tasks as checking on the status of projects, listing meeting agenda items and booking conference rooms." (eWeek). Cisco is looking to stay ahead of companies doing similar 'bot-related' initiatives such as Facebook's Messenger, Microsoft's Skype and Slack.

noHold is in the same thought pattern as Cisco, providing chatbots (Virtual Assistants) that actually work, giving end users what they are looking for. Chatbots need to be back by cutting edge AI technology and experts' experience in creating and maintaining effective automated agents.

One Year Later: Revisiting with Diego Ventura, CEO, noHold

Photo of Diego Ventura (CEO of noHold)

Introduction
One year ago this month, Connected World interviewed Diego Ventura, CEO of noHold about virtual agents, the IoT (Internet of Things), and AI (artificial intelligence). In the year since that interview, the pace of developments in these areas, and for noHold as well, has been blistering.
noHold has announced a number of important developments since June of 2014, clear indicators of the company’s vitality and its commitment to innovation.
Some of the key announcements were the continuation of its longstanding relationship with ViewSonic, and the launch of a collaborative project with Cisco to develop the next generation of AI-enabled virtual assistants. This project, code named SARA for “Services Automated Resolution Agent,” is intended to “revolutionize the interaction by integrating with sophisticated back office systems and deeper understanding of complex problem resolution.”
One of the more exciting projects Ventura’s team has launched is “Virtual Volunteer,” a program designed to give charitable organizations a means to supplement a diminishing base of human volunteers, the ones who make the calls to secure contributions from donors.
Connected World’s Tim Lindner, who originally interviewed Ventura, caught up with him recently to see just what noHold has been doing this past year.

Cisco Small Business Adopts Mobile Support By Providing Customers with a Mobile-Friendly Virtual Customer Assistant

Screenshot of cisco's link to mobile Virtual AssistantMilpitas California, November 6, 2014  – noHold, Inc. is pleased to formally announce Cisco Small Business’ first mobile-friendly Virtual Customer Assistant. This mobile Virtual Assistant was launched in December of 2013 and has received positive feedback ever since.

Cisco Small Business (SB) is an extension of Cisco, providing small businesses with trusted Cisco products and services. Cisco has been a longtime customer of noHold, circa 2006, working collaboratively to bring innovation and smarter self-service together. noHold provides Cisco SB with the self-service support option appropriately named ‘Guide Me.’ Since its implementation, Guide Me has produced great results for Cisco SB. With the success of their web-based Virtual Assistant, noHold suggested developing a mobile-friendly version of Guide Me, to make support accessible for users on any device.

“As of 2013, worldwide mobile phone internet user penetration was 73.4 percent. In 2017, figures suggest that more than 90 percent of internet users will access online content through their phones.” (Statistics and Facts on Mobile Internet Usage). Smartphones and mobile devices (i.e. tablets, wearable devices, etc.) are becoming users’ preferred mode of staying connected. For Cisco SB, it is important to make self-support available across all devices because most of Cisco SB’s customers are not always near a desktop when they need support resolving an issue. Becoming mobile-friendly is proving to be the most efficient way for Cisco SB to provide the answer their users need, while on the go.

Shawn Price, Sr. Manager of End-User & Collaboration Applications at Cisco says, “Our Virtual Agent helps us in two very important ways: One, it helps achieve our goal to make self-support easier for our customers to discover exactly what they need as quickly and easily as possible; and two, our Virtual Agent also gives all of our customers the opportunity to give us critical feedback on our content with every article.  Having the voice of our customers helps us improve our content, which is a tremendous value to us all.” As an acknowledged leader in providing excellent web support for their customers, Cisco prides themselves on giving great customer service. Cisco has won multiple awards for excellence in web-based self-service for the support site. Now, Cisco is carrying on the experience of outstanding web-based support, and using it to revolutionize support for the mobile generation.

“Making the Virtual Assistant work on a mobile device is important, but detecting in real time that a query is coming from a mobile device, so that the content can be automatically rendered to fit that type of environment is imperative and makes the solution very scalable, “ said Diego Ventura, Founder and CEO of noHold.

How Will the Internet of Everything Impact Your Healthcare?

Greetings! I hope everyone had a relaxing weekend!

I wanted to start off this week by sharing a video from Cisco's YouTube channel. As the acknowledged leader in the Internet of Everything (IoE), Cisco gives a great practical example of how the IoE can be utilized within the Healthcare space.

As you can see, the IoE is working to improve the way we view healthcare, but it isn't stopping there. In the past, we have talked a lot about the use of Artificial Intelligence (more specifically Virtual Assistants) in the healthcare industry. As time progresses, there is an increasing amount of automation in the doctor's office. In fact, in a podcast shared earlier in the year, experts in this arena debated whether robots had better bedside manner than a human doctor. In the end, there were quite a few people who preferred the Artificial Intelligence.

People are beginning to warm up to the idea of letting robots and/or Artificial Intelligence play a major role in their lives. Take wearable devices for example. Most wearable devices are designed as a health monitor; tracking exercise, diet, blood pressure, etc. With the IoE, your personal physician can retrieve the data from your health monitor and sync it with your digital file. This way, if you have to see a doctor, he/she will have accurate data and be better equipped to diagnose the problem.

Do you think the IoE is going to impact healthcare, or is it just an over-the-top fantasy? What do you think about Virtual Assistants becoming nurses? Let us know what you think in the comments section below.

Cheers!

Didn't Get a Chance to Catch the Peggy Smedley Show? Check It Out on Demand

Yesterday, our CEO had the privilege to be featured on one of the most reputable radio shows for M2M and connected devices, the Peggy Smedley Show. Alongside was Glenn Schleicher, Sr. Director of Customer Service at Cisco. Together, Diego and Glenn, put on a great show, sharing their knowledge and forward-thinking about the Internet of Everything (IoE).

We just wanted to take the time to say thank you to everyone that was able to tune in to the show. It was a great opportunity to let listeners know what noHold is doing and how important it is, especially as we getting deeper into the IoE. If you did not get a chance to catch the show, but would still like to hear their thought-provoking discussion, please follow the link to archived episodes and click on episode #333. There you will find four segments, Diego joins the conversation in the second segment, 'Interaction with the Internet of Things' and continues into the subsequent segments.

In today's market, Diego believes the sky is the limit for Artificial Intelligence. It is apparent that A.I. is becoming apart of our daily lives already (i.e. Siri, Watson, GoogleNow, etc.) and it will only get more advanced in the future. Now, with things being connected to the Internet by the second, A.I. can help manage all those 'things.' During the discussion, Peggy mentions that Cisco said, "99% of things in the physical world are still not connected to the Internet, but by 2020, 37 billion intelligent things will be connected to the Internet." With so many connected devices, it is going to be imperative to leverage A.I. to simplify the complexities.

Glenn joined the discussion and mentioned that there is a new level of challenges that comes with the Internet of Everything -updating software, troubleshooting problems, higher volumes of customers etc.- but by designing self-service (Virtual Agents) that can handle these complex interactions, the Internet of Everything is a very tangible concept for the near future.

Take a listen to the show and let us know what you think about the Internet of Everything. If you have any questions, you can fill out a contact us form from our website, or tweet us your question by tagging @noHoldAI and using #IoEConvo. We will get back to you as soon as possible.

Throwback Thursday: 1983 'Compact' Laptop

"These days, technology is all screen-touch-this and Bluetooth-that. Remember when tech products used to really be state of the art? From the sweet joystick on the Atari 2600 to the compact Apple IIe personal computer, relieve the glory days of gadgets past." RetroGrade from Wired.com is a video series that showcases old-school technologies. They have a few interesting videos including technologies such as camcorders, handheld video games, and more. Check out this episode from the series: The Portable LCD-286 PC Computer.

It is interesting to see the progression of these devices. Take this video for example, the generation has moved from floppy disks to the cloud; from basic screens to HD touch-screen capabilities, from limited support options to interactive self-service solutions.

What do you envision for the future of 'compact' devices?

Interview with Cisco’s Shawn Price, Sr. Manager of End-User & Collaboration Applications: How Cisco sets the bar for a Culture of Customer Loyalty, and Satisfaction while providing value to students at UCSC

Cisco Small Business has been working with University of California at Santa Cruz (UCSC) and its students on a cutting edge internship program that empowers students to learn about Cisco products, helps improve customer satisfaction and self-support, with the opportunity for students to earn money while obtaining college credit. The students that are part of this program additionally have room for advancement as well as the potential to become a Cisco employee in the future.

Recently, noHold took some time to learn more about Shawn Price’s intern program at UC Santa Cruz in California; Shawn is Sr. Manager of End-User & Collaboration Applications at Cisco. One of the first of its kind, Mr. Price has spearheaded a project with an incredible Mission: “We use students first, to promote education, and to give back. The program helps students develop and be successful. In addition, it helps Cisco develop additional support capabilities and it’s a win-win situation for our customers, for the students, and for Cisco.”

Cisco recruits, trains, promotes, and in some cases hires students from UCSC (and in a previous program at Wichita State) as part of its support programs. Here’s what Shawn had to say about the benefits, the goals, and how they measure success.

1)   noHold: Hi Shawn. Thanks for agreeing to talk with us today. Can you tell us first, why students?
Shawn: Cisco believes in education and giving back and supporting communities. The product support organization has been giving an endowment to UC Santa Cruz with an expectation to empower students. Our mission is to use students to promote education and to give back. Cisco is helping students develop and be successful, which helps Cisco develop great support capabilities. In summary, it’s a win-win situation for our customers, for the students and for Cisco.

2)   noHold: Does Cisco actually hire these students?
Shawn: Students begin on an entry level, participate in the community forum, etc. Those who obtain Cisco certification have the opportunity to eventually be hired. For example, in the first intern program with Wichita State University, one student was hired directly onto the support team at Cisco. With UCSC, the opportunity is still preliminary, so there may be a time when we actually do hire students in the future.

3)   noHold: How long does it take to onboard the students?
Shawn: Well, we began the program with UCSC in January, then published our first article in mid-May. That is starting from ground zero, with a team of 8 developers, and includes recruiting, onboarding, facilities, etc. Going forward, we anticipate this will take no longer than about 4 weeks.

4)   noHold: What is the specific pitch to get students excited about the opportunity?
Shawn: The pitch to students is actually pretty simple.  Our fundamental message is, “Come and join Cisco as an intern and we will pay you to learn while you earn credits.”  We make this pitch on campus, in large undergrad Information Systems classes of about 150 students.  We show them the website, tools, share Cisco’s mission, and invite them to be a part of that. We make sure they understand that this is a great opportunity to have a paid internship with Cisco while accruing college credit.

5)   noHold: I’m sure you receive a pretty large response - How do you filter through all of the candidates to choose the best fit?
Shawn: We leverage student Team Leads today as well as a Program Manager at UC Santa Cruz. We request that interested parties submit a 2 page essay on any topic they are passionate about; it could be anything from cooking brownies to pasta, or the wacky world of BitCoin. We then screen the essays to see if they have the skillset to write. For this type of internship, we are asking for students that are part of the information systems, computer engineering, computer science or electrical engineering disciplines; these are students that have the viability to be hired by cisco.

6)   noHold: How do you ensure retention?
Shawn: So far, we only lose them [students] when they graduate. We have almost zero voluntary attrition.

7)   noHold: Can you describe the typical training involved? What does it take to get the students up to speed?
Shawn: We begin by sending them lab equipment. They get their hands on Cisco’s small business products. Using customer support information, we target products with the highest volume of support calls and cases. We provide the students with all of the detailed case history, so we can discover what information or help customers need. The students do the searching, they develop the top 3 reasons customers call and then we go about creating content to help those customers self-serve. An example of this method is, “Most people ask how to set up VPN, here’s the process to follow in order to set up VPN for your business.” The students go in and create additional content, capture screen shots, and break down procedures into steps. Since the students are not certified product experts, the final articles are sent to Cisco’s training team for review. The training team is a Cisco team that creates training content for support agents. The team reviews and assesses the quality of the content.  Once the content is complete and accurate, it is published in our noHold knowledgebase.

8)   noHold: Cisco uses a Virtual Agent/Virtual Assistant called ‘Guide Me.’ Do the students get to learn and contribute to the Virtual Agent in addition to writing articles?
Shawn: Yes. They get to access the diagnostic trees, solution weighting, and the syntax of “Guide Me” for Cisco’s Virtual Agent and Knowledgebase.

9)   noHold: How do you stay in touch with the students and monitor the program?
Shawn: Once a week, I visit on location or conduct a WebEx meeting to connect with the team and to provide recognition and feedback.  I work with the UCSC Project Lead to track which products we are focusing on, the status of new products, status of lab equipment delivered, and which articles to draft. In addition, I look at metrics provided by noHold’s solution to see if we received feedback on any articles that suggests how we can improve, any quality feedback that we can act on, and so forth. The team needs to know that what they are doing adds value, and that someone cares and is staying on top of their efforts. We also conduct a Quarterly Business Review (QBR) and look at Cisco business metrics which include noHold reporting, number of sessions, articles viewed, quality feedback, or why an article is not performing well.

10) noHold: Shawn, can you offer any recommendations for other companies who might be      interested in implementing a similar program?
Shawn: Within the context of making self-support easier, it really depends on the mission and what the specific company is trying to achieve. Ultimately, if the goal is to make self-support part of the support solution, I recommend that they find a way to make self-support easier by making support information accessible and easy to find first, then the content needs to be targeted to specific customer needs. It’s all about customer loyalty. I truly believe (and industry experts have brought me to this point) that customers on the phone are already dissatisfied. Many customers looking for support today prefer self- service. I believe those on the phone have already attempted to find support on the web and failing to find what they need, they finally come to the phone. Disloyalty is mitigated by helping users find support on the web through search, virtual agent, support community, or whatever the customer’s preferred option is. If we allow them to do it [self-serve] first on the web they will be happier customers.

11) noHold: If customer loyalty is the specific Key Performance Indicator (KPI), do you look at loyalty across all self-support options? (community, kb articles, etc)
Shawn: Yes, and we also look at call and case volume trends; we are drawn to new product introductions to monitor the call/case volume, and to support call and case volumes for all products. Ideally, before a new product even ships, our student team has support content already in the Virtual Agent (Guide Me), all linked up. We use our Twitter, community [social media] to highlight support content on the web. In addition, we promote the new products on social media, as well as socialize support options, and then we watch to monitor call and case volumes.

12) noHold: Would you say it is part of Cisco’s culture to offer multi-channel support to its audience?
Shawn: Absolutely.  Cisco’s culture is to offer support in whatever channel or medium the customer chooses.  Making it easy for customers to obtain the support in the channel they prefer is indeed our mission.

13) noHold: How do you measure the productivity of the students while keeping them motivated?
Shawn: As students become more proficient and competent in writing support content, and managing the Virtual Agent, we pay them more once they pass entry level, we bump them to tier 2 level. These are people who can walk into the lab, unsupervised, get the new product, get it hooked up and configured, verify that it works, and then create content. For those who want to be part of the community forum and effectively helping customers to solve their support needs, we make them tier 3 and bump their salary once again. When they are actively participating in the community, they begin helping customers by pointing them to articles or pointing them to the Virtual Agent, Guide Me.
In terms of measuring their productivity, it’s based on number of engagements and we use gamification to keep them motivated; for example, the students that are most productive get on the leaderboard. They get competitive. They are not necessarily measured on the number of articles written, we look at star articles, number of views, and quality feedback. And in turn, we keep recognizing this type of behavior by providing recognition for high-performing students.
14)    noHold: Students change curriculum regularly. Do you anticipate trying to find new students each semester?
Shawn: Yes. Right now, we are trying to find students in the digital media programs. For example students in the film programs at UCSC, which has nothing to do with networking. We encourage them to join the team to help story board, shoot, edit and post engaging video content. If you compare text-based content to the same content in an engaging video, the well-developed video gets more usage; maybe five times more views than written articles.

15) noHold: Will every new group of interns have to be trained on support solutions such as Guide Me?
Shawn: We have an ongoing process to develop Team Leads who then become our trainers.  With noHold’s help, we ‘train the trainers’ and then we shadow and help the trainers when needed. Once students graduate, we can’t keep them as interns. We are always recruiting, moving students to team leads, etc. These Team Leads are chartered to be experts on how to author, generate content, publish to noHold, etc.

16) noHold: As new ‘video’ interns join the team, do you anticipate that Guide Me will be part of that training?
Shawn: The ‘video’ interns are chartered to create video content, and the Team Leads will then ensure that customers can connect with the video content using the best available tools.

17) noHold: Does Cisco use the Virtual Agent to point users to videos, or does Cisco embed videos in the Virtual Agent solutions?
Shawn: We would love to have that conversation.

18) noHold: Do you plan to expand beyond Small Business?
Shawn: There is a great opportunity to expand the vision and methodology beyond today’s student team at Cisco.

noHold: Thanks so much, Shawn for taking the time to speak with noHold today about your exciting program with UCSC and Cisco support. We look forward to staying in touch with you, and providing our support along the way.

Exclusive Interview: Diego Ventura Talks with Connected World Magazine About IoE and AI

The CEO and founder of noHold, Diego Ventura, sat down with Tim Lindner of Connected World Magazine to talk about the Internet of Everything (IoE) and how Virtual Agents are a growing part of this phenomenon. Below is the introduction to the article; to read the full interview, please click here.

Introduction
"At the close of 2012, Ray Kurzweil, a well-known inventor, futurist, and founder of Singularitarianism, posted a brief article in his online newsletter entitled "How the Internet of Everything Will Change the World."

His primary source was Cisco, which at the time was beginning its transformation into a company primarily focused on supplying the infrastructure that would support the explosive growth it forecasted as the world embraced the IoE (Internet of Everything).

Cisco made the statement that "more than 99% of things in the physical world are still not connected to the Internet." Cisco went on to state that "by 2020, 37 billion intelligent things will be connected to the Internet." 2020 is less than six years away.

As Cisco defines it, "The Internet of Everything builds on the foundation of the IoT (Internet of Things) by adding network intelligence that allows convergence, orchestration, and visibility across previously disparate systems."

Like the iceberg, the things we can see, such as connected-smart devices in people's hands or cars, is just a small part of the whole. The larger part unseen by most is the infrastructure that connects those devices and makes the Internet of Everything work.

It is here, unseen but an important player in the functioning of the infrastructure, "adding network intelligence that allows convergence, orchestration, and visibility across previously disparate systems," that we find Diego Ventura and his company, noHold, Inc. Recently Connected World magazine's Tim Lindner sat down with the very distinguished Ventura to have a very candid conversation about how he plans on charting a course for noHold straight into the future of the Internet of Everything. What we learned is that what noHold does will at some point in the future touch your lives on a daily basis. It will soon be very transparent to you. All you will see, hear, and touch will be his company's Virtual Agents."

Throwback Thursday: Insider Interview with VP of Worldwide Customer Advocacy

Circa 2010, noHold had the privilege to get an exclusive interview about noHold Connect (formerly known as Confederated Knowledge) with Cisco's VP of Worldwide Customer Advocacy, D. Jay Pederson. Here is a snippet from the interview.

"How do your customers feel about your support initiatives?

According to our online survey, more customers perceive our online support initiatives very positively and are satisfied with the support options available to them online.

Where do you see the industry heading, both in general, and specifically as it relates to support?

Several industry indicators lead us to believe that there are more collaborative support efforts among key industry players, in areas such as inter-operability where support boundaries begin to blur. Also more companies have support presence in new social media channels such as Twitter, and Facebook, which are out of those companies’ domain. Social media dictates a new engagement model with customers and has a significant impact on brand image and equity."

Fast forward to today, I'm curious to see how these answers might have changed? Where do YOU see the industry heading, both in general, and specifically as it relates to support?

A Successful, Worldwide Networking Company Recognizes Virtual Agent for Contributing to Their Excellent Customer Support

With nearly 100 "things" being connected to the Internet per second (How Many Internet Connections are in the World? Right. Now.), it is important for a company in the networking space to have exceptional customer support. Network routers can come with many complications and questions, and users need solutions fast. By offering multiple options for support, including self-service, users feel empowered to find their own solutions.

Here is a quote from one of the global leaders in the design, manufacture, and sale of networking equipment.

"The flexibility of InstantSupport™ helped us with our own support initiatives and added another dimension into our online support ecosystem."
